가장 놀라운 경험은 중앙 고등학교에서 성균관 대학 후문으로 넘어가는 길에 국가기밀지역이라는 푯말이 있는 공터에서 있었다. 둥근 형태를 통해 예측하면, 그곳은 헬리콥터가 내려 올 수 있을 것 같았다. 우연히 발견한 비밀스러운 공터는 신비롭고 매력적인 곳이었다. 그곳은 서울의 다른 공간과 확연하게 분리되는, 독립적인 공간적 프로그램이 작동했다. 경복궁, 혹은 옛날 사람들이 '비원'이라고 부르는 곳의 뒤 부분인 것 같았다. 오래된 나무들이 아름다운 자태를 뽐낸다. 우리는 그 공간에 매혹되었다. 사진 한 장을 찍고선 더 이상의 필름이 없어서 안타까웠다. 그후 정신없는 서울의 곳곳을 표류하던 한 달의 시간 동안, 그곳을 마법적인 공간으로 기억했다. 그래서 서울을 떠나기 직전에 그곳을 다시 찾았다. 다시 방문한 공터에서 우리는 깜짝 놀랐다. 위치는 같았으나, 같은 공간이라고 할 수 없을 만큼 변했다. 한동안 어안이 벙벙해서 의아해하다가, 정신을 가다듬고 관찰했다. 가장 큰 변화는 나무가 많이 자라고, 이파리가 짙은 녹색으로 변해서 공터가 좁아진 것이다. 비밀스러운 공간이 알려준 비밀은, 공간은 끊임없이 변하는 살아있는 생명 채라는 것이다.

The biggest surprise was in an empty lot between Joongang Highschool and Sungkyunkwan University. A picket claimed that the area is private zone belonging to the government. We stumbled upon the place by chance in one of our afternoon walks. By the circular shape of the place, I guessed it can be used to land a helicopter. It was very mysterious and attractive place. The secret lot seemed to be running a completely unique spatial program that is unassociated with any other space in Seoul. It seemed to be the back end of the Kyong Bok Palace, or the Secret Garden as the old people call it. Aged trees were showing off their beautiful body. We were mesmerized by the space, but sadly realized that the camera was out of film after one picture. For the rest of the month, we continued walking in the crazy Seoul, and we remembered the lot as a magical space. Few days before leaving Seoul, we made a trip to the lot again. To our great surprise, the lot seemed nothing like how we remember it. We were stunned with the shocking discovery. After some time of observation, we realized that the trees grew and the leaves became greener, and therefore the space felt a bit smaller. The secret that the secretive place revealed is that, space is a living organism, always evolving and changing.
