1-1 이 광장은 특별한 것이 없는 넓은 공터이다. 이 광장은 이 도시의 상징적인 공공장소이다. 도시는 이 광장을 중심으로 개발되었다.
1-2 광장에 간 구경꾼은 지루할 틈이 없다. 그래서 광장에는 사람이 끈이지 않는다.
1-3 비워진 광장에는 무슨 일이던지 일어날 수 있다. 그래서 권력을 갈망하는 사람들은 광장을 기회의 장치로 사용하고자 한다. 그리고 광장을 자신의 뜻대로 사용하지 못하는 상태를 두려워한다.
1-4 흥겨운 축제와 성난 혁명은 광장이라는 동전의 양면이다.
1-5 광장의 경험은 사람들의 기억에 남게 된다. 그 경험은 사람들을 연결하는 고리가 된다.
1-6 집단적 환영을 만들기 위해 이상적인 공공장소로 연출된 광장.
1-7 광장에는 기념비가 있다. 혹은 광장 자체가 기념비인 경우도 있다. 이런 모뉴먼트는 개인을 압도하는 모습으로 권력 (혹은 이상, 자본 등) 의 완벽한 전지전능함을 나타낸다.
1-8 시대에 따라서 모뉴먼트가 묘사하는 내용과 그것이 대변하는 이데올로기는 바뀐다. 하지만, 모뉴먼트의 언어는 변하지 않는다.
1-9 도시화는 공간을 압축한다. 중립 공간은 사유화 된다. 광장의 영역은 점점 줄어든다.

2-0 광고가 빛과 음향으로 광장의 대기에 침범한다.
2-1 뉴미디어는 공공장소를 확장한다. 그리고 뉴 미디어 공간에는 새로운 비물리적인 공공장소가 탄생한다.
2-2 물리적 공간을 지배하는 권력과 자본의 힘은 미디어의 공간도 같은 논리로 지배하고자 한다.
2-3 광장에 하나의 정보 채널 밖에 없다면, 뉴 미디어를 사용한 눈속임은 쉽다.
2-4 그래서, 때로는 허구의 공공장소가 생산된다.
2-5 구시대의 무기는 속도를 통해서 폭력을 생산했다. 뉴 미디어의 시선으로 폭력을 생산한다.
2-6 확장공간에서는 시선으로 전쟁놀이를 한다. 술래잡기처럼, 상대방에게 보이면 죽는다.
2-7 가리면 안 보인다. 광장을 제어하면, 언론을 제어할 수 있다. 그러면 대중의 의견을 구축할 수 있다.
2-8 공공장소에는 여러 개의 정보 채널이 있어야 한다. 그리고 여러 개의 공공장소는 공존해야 한다.

3-1 폭력적인 저항은 금세 소모되고, 급격한 혁명은 변화로 연결되지 못한다. 그리고 도시는 다시 제자리로 돌아온다.
3-2 어느새 여러 가지 구호와 깃발이 섞인다. 그들에게는 시위하는 행위가 그 내용 보다 중요하다.
3-3 68 혁명은 정치적인 실패였지만, 문화적인 성공이었다. 하지만 그들이 바라던 성공은 아니었다.
3-4 저항은 소모되고, 혁명은 소비된다.
3-5 일시적인 자율공간은 만들어 질 수 있다. 허나 그것이 영구적인 자율공간이 되는 것이 해결책은 아니다. 영구적인 자율공간은 혼동의 연속이다.

1-1 The plaza is an empty open space with not much in it. It is a symbolic public space of the city. The city developed around it.
1-2 The plaza is always full of people, because the spectators are never bored there.
1-3 Since there is not much in the plaza, anything can happen. People who desire power try to use the plaza as a tool of opportunity. At the same time, they are afraid of the plaza, because things can go out of control.
1-4 Celebratory festival and angry revolution are the flip side of a coin called the plaza.
1-5 When people experience something together in the plaza, the experience stays with them. It becomes a link that connects them.
1-6 The plaza is staged to create a collective phantasmagoria of an idealized public place.
1-7 There are monuments in the plaza, or some times the plaza itself is a monument. The grand aesthetic of the monuments which dominates over an individual, represent the absolute, perfect and all mighty power (or ideology or the capital, etc).
1-8 The monument's representation and the ideology changes over time. But the language of the monument does not change much.
1-10 Urbanism leads to compression of space. Neutral space become privatized. The size of plaza shrinks.

2-0 Commercial advertisement invades in the plaza with light and sound.
2-1 New media augments public place. New public space opens up in the immaterial space of new media.
2-2 The political and economic power, that dominates the order of physical space, attempts to control new media space through a similar method.
2-3 If there is only one channel of information in the plaza, tricking the eyes with new media is easy.
2-4 Therefore, some times a fictional public space is produced.
2-5 Yesterday's weapon produced violence with speed. New Media produces violence with vision.
2-6 War game in an augmented space is a battle of vision. Hide and seek. To be seen is to get killed.
2-7 Hide things, and it won't be seen. Controlling the plaza leads to controlling the press. Then, the public opinion can be constructed.
2-8 Public place needs multiple channel of information. And, multiple public place needs to coexist.

3-1 Violent resistance is rapidly exhausted. Sudden revolution does not lead to eventual change. The city comes back to it's old place.
3-2 Soon, many flags and manifestos get mixed up. The act of protest is more important that it's message.

3-3 1968 revolution was a political failure, but a cultural success. However, It was not the kind of success they desired for.
3-4 Resistance is wasted, and revolution is consumed.
