Movable Types and Instant Spaces will explore how temporary architecture can define an experience or meaning, and alternatively how social or personal actions and objects can change the perception of a space and even suggest a new function for it. Lightweight materials are used, suggesting to the viewer that architecture is a concept rather than a reality and that it has less importance than that which it contains.

Through artist performance and viewer interaction, the specific actions of people within architecture becomes a key theme for the project. Pod Types are smaller, light structures will be dropped into place. Working off the idea of wearable architecture, these small types will strive to create personal space in public sphere of San Jose. Each pod type will derive it's function and a minimum of form from the objects they contain and in exchange the function of the objects will be altered by the architecture. Intervening social functions of urban elements, Shower Type turns water fountain into a shower, park bench into a tent, and circle of palm into a hammock.

The project proposed is the direct result of a meeting that took place in Chicago and Santa Barbara between the artists:

Taeyoon Choi, Cheon Pyo Lee, and Tellef Tellefson. For two weeks in March, a large loft was rented and became the daily meeting place for MTIS. The planning for ISEA revolved around the idea of a shipping container being reused as a gallery or home. Additionally, Movable Types and Instant Spaces was conerned with constructing architecture from lightweight materials. The container culture project is result of these discussions and material studies conducted at the Chicago Session loft.
